General Dentistry Reservoir
For more than 65 years, Royal Parade Dental has cared for Reservoir families, offering unhurried examinations, gentle treatment and advice you can act on with confidence, at every stage of life.
What General Dentistry Covers at Our Reservoir Practice
General dentistry is the everyday care that keeps natural teeth healthy for as long as possible: examination, prevention, and the restoration of teeth damaged by decay, wear or injury. At our Reservoir clinic, that care spans every stage of life, from a child’s first check-up through to dentures in later years.
Our general dental care includes:
- Comprehensive examinations and Preventative Dental Care
- Tooth Coloured Fillings for decay, chips and worn edges
- Root Canal Treatment to save a tooth that would otherwise be lost
- Periodontal / Gum Care for bleeding, sensitivity or receding gums
- Dentures, extractions and Emergency Dentist appointments
Most patients need nothing more than a routine check-up and clean. Where treatment is required, you will hear the options, the reasoning behind them and the cost before anything begins.
What Happens at Your First Check-Up and Clean
Your first visit is unhurried by design. We begin with your medical and dental history, then examine your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, taking X-rays only where they will genuinely change what we recommend.
Your teeth are then cleaned of plaque and hardened calculus, polished, and treated with fluoride. Most people are on their way within the hour.
If we find something, you will see it and understand it before any decision is made. We explain what it means, what happens if it is left, and what each option would cost. Nothing is booked on the spot unless you want it to be. Where you have not seen a dentist for some time, we will usually stage the work rather than attempt everything at once. For a good number of our patients, that single conversation is the difference between avoiding the dentist and coming back.
Preventive Care That Keeps Treatment Simple
Prevention is the least expensive dentistry there is. A small area of decay found early is a filling. The same tooth left for two years may need root canal treatment and a crown.
For most adults and children, oral health checks every six months are enough. Where there is active gum disease, a high decay risk or a history of grinding, we will suggest seeing you more often and explain why.
Preventative dental care here includes:
- Professional teeth cleaning and scaling
- Fluoride application and fissure sealants
- Ongoing gum health monitoring
- Custom Sports Mouth Guards
- Night splints for Bruxism, where grinding is wearing the teeth down
Gentle Dentistry for Nervous and Anxious Patients
A good number of our patients arrive apprehensive, and some have not seen a dentist in years. That is far more common than people assume, and it is never met with judgement.
We allow longer appointments so nothing feels rushed. Every step is explained before it happens, and you can stop us at any point with an agreed signal. There is no pressure to commit to treatment on the day; for some patients, a first visit is a conversation and nothing more.
The clinic itself is designed to feel calm rather than clinical, with blankets, soft music, aromatherapy and ceiling-mounted screens above each chair. Small things, but they matter a great deal to Anxious Patients.
What We Offer
From preventative fissure sealants to government-funded care, we provide a full suite of pediatric services to keep your child’s smile healthy.
Fissure Sealants
These plastic resins bond to deep grooves (pits and fissures) on the biting surfaces of molars and premolars. By smoothing these grooves, we make brushing easier and more effective against decay.
Comprehensive Examinations & X-rays
Regular check-ups to monitor growth and digital X-rays to ensure the underlying teeth are developing correctly.
Professional Cleaning & Fissure Sealing
Removing plaque and applying protective barriers to permanent teeth (and baby teeth on a case-by-case basis) to prevent cavities.
Restorative Fillings & Root Canals
Gentle treatments to repair decay and save teeth, ensuring your child remains pain-free and healthy.
Extractions & Partial Dentures
Necessary procedures for damaged teeth to ensure the surrounding teeth and jaw develop as they should.
Preventative Measure Maintenance
Sealants usually last 3–5 years. We monitor them at every visit; if they come off, we schedule an appointment for re-sealing to ensure constant protection.
Honest Advice, and Knowing When to Refer
We treat comprehensively. Crowns and bridges, implant restorations, root canal treatment and surgical extractions under local anaesthetic are all carried out here in Reservoir.
Just as importantly, we will tell you when something is better handled elsewhere. Learn more about our clinic or meet Our Team.

Coordinated Referrals
Complex implant cases and procedures requiring general anaesthesia are referred to trusted specialists, and we coordinate that care so the process stays seamless from placement through to restoration.

Long-Term Oral Health First
Recommendations are made on the basis of your long-term oral health, not the size of a treatment plan. If a tooth is better monitored than treated, we will say so.

Continuity of Care
The same dentist follows your care through, so nothing is lost between visits, including when a specialist is involved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about check-ups, costs and health fund cover at our Reservoir clinic.
Is my child eligible for the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS)?
Eligible children aged 2–17 can access services including exams, cleans, fillings, and root canals. If you receive relevant Australian government payments, you are likely entitled. You can check via MyGov, the Department of Human Services, or ask our staff for help.
What is covered (and not covered) under the CDBS?
It covers basics like X-rays, cleaning, and fissure sealing. However, it does not include orthodontic or cosmetic treatment, mouthguards, or services provided in a hospital operating theatre.
How does billing work for CDBS?
Bulk-billing is available for all covered treatments. If the CDBS balance is unavailable on the day, you simply pay the invoice in full and claim your rebate later through Medicare.
Why are sealants recommended for the back teeth?
Sealants are applied to molars and premolars because they have tiny grooves (fissures) that harbor plaque. Sealing them makes the surface smooth and much harder for cavities to form.
How long do dental sealants last?
They typically last 3 to 5 years, though some last into adulthood. They only protect the tooth when fully intact, so if one comes off, it’s important to see us for a re-seal.
How often should I have a dental check-up?
Most adults and children do well with a check-up and clean every six months. If you have gum disease, a high decay risk or heavy grinding, we may suggest three to four monthly visits and explain exactly why.
Are dental cleans covered by Medicare?
Medicare does not cover routine dental care for adults. Eligible children may be treated under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, and most private health funds pay a rebate towards check-ups and cleans depending on your level of cover.
Do I need a referral to see a dentist in Reservoir?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with us for a check-up, an emergency appointment or a second opinion. If your treatment needs a specialist, we arrange that referral for you and stay involved afterwards.
What will I pay on the day if I have private health cover?
Your rebate depends on your fund and your level of cover. We are preferred providers for Medibank, BUPA and HCF, which usually means a smaller gap. We will confirm the expected out-of-pocket cost before treatment begins.
Health Funds, Payment Plans and Booking in Reservoir
We are preferred providers for Medibank, BUPA and HCF, which generally means a smaller gap payment for members. Health fund claims are processed on the spot, and eligible children can be treated under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
Payment plans are available for larger treatments, and our new patient offer covers your initial examination, clean, fluoride and x-rays.
You will find us at 2A Royal Parade, Reservoir VIC 3073, with free undercover parking on site. We also care for patients from Preston, Thomastown, Lalor, Bundoora, Mill Park and Epping, many of whom have been with us for years — see all the Areas we service.
